I am very pleased to announce that Pig records will be launched in good and proper style next year, with releases by the Kevin Figes Quartet+ (‘Weather Warning’) and Octet (‘Time Being’). This will be on 10th April at the Lantern, Colston Hall, Bristol. Also performing the Jim Blomfield Trio, Balanca and maybe a few extras! Before then the new Pig website will be launched and a few newsletters scattered to tell people all about it. Just trying to sort out some post launch gigs at the moment. I hope to release some wildly different stuff on the label as well.
Before the launch we have the wonderful Bristol Jazz fest, which I will be performing at with the Quartet, Bruce Ilett Big Band and Pee Wee Ellis/Fred Wesley Big Band, prior to three nights at Ronnie Scotts with the aforementioned! Can things get more exciting? Hope so. Meanwhile special mention to the Thunderbirds/Music of Barry Gray Project which I played in last Tuesday at the Colston Hall. What a buzz, I do hope the festival gigs talked about next summer come off. In the meantime, here is cover art for ‘Time Being’
Two exciting new projects coming up. Firstly, I have just finished writing a set of material for the new Octet, which is: Kevin Figes and Nick Dover (saxes), Emily Wright and Cathy Jones (vocals), Will Harris (bass) Jim Blomfield (piano), Mark Whitlam and Lloyd Haines (drums). We will be recording an album in February (together with some new Quartet material), and have some gigs lined up for next year. But in the meantime we are playing the Wardrobe (upstairs at the white Bear, St Micheals Hill Bristol) on 11th November (from 8pm) and at the Colston Hall Foyer on Thursday 28th November (6-7pm). Also , together with Ryan Broom, a Pig records website has been built where you can buy all the Pig releases in most formats, and we will have a special release to launch the site. More about all this later. In the meantime, the Quartet had a great tour of the UK this year, including journeys to Manchester, London, Birmingham and a great trip to St Ives,St Austell and Poole. Thanks to everyone that came and saw us. Here are a few shots I took in beautiful St. Ives.

Few more updates, tour dates are now up for the quartet and i’m delighted to say we have jazz services support for this tour. Review/airplay copies of the CD go out this week, and we are about to get new photos and videos! How exciting. Also writing some new stuff, new tune “in pieces’ sounded great in rehearsal the other day. Watch this space…
Hi and Happy New Year! Taking a while to get going, you know overcome the lethargy, but we have a release date of the 11th April for the new Quartet CD ‘Tables and chairs” and news of a supporting tour will follow soon. In the meantime I’ve updated the gigs section to March, which includes KFQ, 4ST and Balanca action. I resolve to update more often too!
Just finished a few more updates to the site, one or two more to go. Bit like hard work really, especially when you don’t know what you are doing. Anyway, the new promotional video for the Quartet is up, a few more pictures, words and reviews. And the artwork for both of the next two Pig releases is done. Thanks Ryan, think they look great. The Balanca CD is being pressed as we speak and will be launched in November (More news about that soon) and the new Quartet CD has been finalised, release date coming soon. Well its about time to update the old website , get some of the nice things said about 4Sided Triangle up and look forward to not one but two new releases on Pig records . Firstly a new EP from Balança coming very soon and featuring some fine contemporary bossa nova from Cathy Jones, Tristram Cox , Thad Kelly and Mark Whitlam. Oh, and me on flute and sax. Thats going to be Pig 03, with compositions by Jobim, Metheny, Joyce and Jones.
And then the new Kevin Figes Quartet CD Pig 04 will be released, entitled ‘Tables and Chairs”. Featuring 8 brand new compositions and the skills of Jim Blomfield, Will Harris and Mark Whitlam. Promotional video soon! Quite pleased with the way the whole thing turned out and compositions going in a different direction. Watch this space!
